The Blackburn Cycling Club is pleased to present

In conjunction with RACV Doncaster Retail Store

The RACV Junior Track Cycling Development Program

This program will encompass the development of Novice/Skills Training/Racing Sessions.

This skills training & racing session is provided primarily for riders new to track cycling. Adult riders are welcome to attend!

It is run from October to April (traditional summer track season. On Saturdays, registration is at 11am with the session running from 11:30am– 12:30pm. Thursday evenings registration is at 6pm, with the session running from 6:30pm– 8.00pm (sometimes longer due to Day Light Savings) at Blackburn’s East Burwood Velodrome situated at East Burwood Reserve, 298 Burwood Hwy Burwood East VIC 3151.

The club thanks RACV for supporting this program and we look forward to working with them to improve road safety and increase health & fitness within the community. The objectives of each session are:

  • To improve road safety and the health, fitness and wellbeing of our youth;
  • To help riders new to track (velodrome) cycling become competent and confident enough to join into other club training sessions and compete on race days in a safe manner;
  • To provide a training session for riders to focus on skills rather than strength and speed;
  • To provide a non-intimidating training and skills session that new riders feel comfortable in attending - and enjoy enough to come back; plus
  • To provide a forum where riders can ask questions on technique, racing tactics or cycling in general.

For insurance reasons, it is required that all participants have an appropriate Cycling Australia licence. This is available via the club website (see the Membership details for licence information).

A Come & Try Permit is available for selected dates (enquiries can be made with Paula McGovern) Email:

When does this start?

We ask all riders and parents to be there at least 15 minutes before each session starts. The Saturday session starts at 11.00am and Thursday at 6.00pm.

New riders to Come & Try Sessions are FREE for the 1st two Saturdays they attend.  In addition to the licence cost there is a $5 rider fee each Saturday and Thursday.

What to Bring?

The days can be cold & wet so please be prepared by bringing warm & wet weather clothing. Even in the Australian summer months it can become quite cold between efforts, therefore please take this advice seriously and bring warm clothing. Each rider needs to bring their bike (there are some club bikes available), helmet, cycling shoes (if they have them - if not they will need appropriate footwear, no thongs or sandals) to match the pedals on their bike. Please bring a sun hat, jacket, track pants, sun screen lotion, drink and a snack!
