Each year, the Club will run its Club Track Championships in the month of February (or as required to fit in with the State and National calendars). The Road Club Champioships will be held in the latter part of August each year.
The Championships are open only to fully paid up members of the Blackburn Cycling Club.
You need to have raced at least 3 Track races since the start of the Track season which started on the 4th October 2009. (Events that qualify are 1) Saturday Track Racing at Blackburn 2) aboc Summer Sprint Series 3) Friday Night Racing at DISC - Please note that Friday night training at DISC does not count.**For those that do not meet this criteria, they need to handicapper@bbn.org.au, but only extenuating circumstances will be considered**
All racing will be conducted according to the ACF Technical Regulations.
The Club Championships events are run by category (the ACF licenced age category) rather than grades.
An event will be held for each category with two or more entries.
If there is only one entry in a category, that rider may enter and compete in the next "higher" category - which potentially may make enough for the higher category event to be run. This process must start from the lowest category and work upwards to the highest (Elite) category. All will then compete for the awards of the higher category. For example, if there is only one entry in each of the J17, J15 and J13 categories, the J13 rider would be invited to ride the J15 event - which could now be held as there are two entries. The J17 would be invited to ride J19 or higher. For Masters this process would work down from the oldest age category toward Elite.
Such riders riding in a higher age category may ride with the gearing restrictions of the "higher" category. These rules apply to all events (ITT and Scratches races).
The next "higher" category is the next category closer to elite (that is, the next lower age category in Masters divisions, and the next higher age category in Junior divisions.
Aggregate participation points (i.e. 2 points) are awarded for each event participated in to encourage all to compete. (2 points for starting a track race, 2 points for finishing the course of a road race). Please see Aggregate Competition Rules.
Awards are made to the first three place getters regardless of entry numbers. That is: if 3 enter and all finish, 3 get medals; 2 enter and all finish, 2 get medals.
In contrast to our normal Club racing, no prize money is paid as trophies or medals are awarded instead.
Riders must enter each Championship event separately and pay the entry fee for each event. A discount may be offered to those that enter all events.
The entry fee payable for each event is the same as the normal race entry fee.
There will be three club championship events: a Scratch Race, Individual Road Time Trial and an Individual Hill Climb Time Trial.
The winner of each event will receive a Trophy, and the minor places will receive Medals.
The Trophies and Medals awarded will be presented at the Club's Presentation Night.
There will be a separate starting bunch for each Scratch Race for which a competition is being held (see general Club Championship Rules).
Distances for each category will be approximately as follows:
Scratch ITT Elite Men 100km 40km Elite Women 60km 30km JM17 60km 10km JW17 35km 10km J15 25km 10km J13 10km 5km Masters 1 - 5 60km 20km Masters 6 - 8 30km 10km
The Hill Climb is run up the 1:20 (from The Basin to Sassafras) over 6.8km for all categories.
There are a number of track championship events run:
Elite Men: Sprint, Time Trial, Scratch, Pursuit and Points Race. Elite Women: Sprint, Time Trial, Scratch and Pursuit. Masters: Sprint, Time Trial, Scratch and Pursuit. J17 / J15 Sprint, Time Trial, Scratch and Pursuit. J13 Sprint, Time Trial, and Scratch.
Masters may compete the Elite Mens Points Race if they wish.
Medals will be awarded to the recognised place getters (see the general Club Championship Rules) for each event.
Event medals will be presented on the day (although they may be dummy medals with the final ones engraved and distributed later).
An overall Club Track Champion will be recognised in those categories for which
events were held, and will be based on points allocated for places achieved in each Championship event. The points allocated are:
1st place - 5 pts, 2nd - 3 pts, 3rd - 2 pts, 4th - 1 pt.
The points allocated are as stated regardless of the number of entries. (e.g. If three competitors, 5, 3 and 2 points would be awarded).
If two or more riders are equal on Championship Points, the placings will be determined on a count back: first going to the rider with the greatest number of firsts, and if still equal, then on the number of 2nds, and if still equal, then on the number of thirds.
The Club Track Champions in each category (for which events were held) will be awarded a Trophy with the minor placings receiving medals.
The Club Track Champion awards will be presented at the Club's Presentation Night.
The distances for each of the track events are as close is as practicable to the Australian Championship Distances (given that our track is 307m per lap):
