Race Staff Position Descriptions
Corner Marshall
Purpose:
To provide direction to the riders and assist the Traffic Controller where necessary
Under no circumstance should a Corner Marshal attempt to STOP
other road users.
Arrival Time
Please ensure you arrive at least 1 1/2 hours prior to the published
race start time. If by unforseen circumstances you are running
late please phone ahead to the Race Director to let them know.
Please take your own car (or go with somebody working the same corner).
Equipment Required
High visibility vest, appropriate signs for your corner as per Traffic management Plan, red flag, radio, pen, pad and first aid kit. Take the appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather conditions. It gets cold standing in the one spot for two or three hours.
Before the start
- Check in and collect folder.
- Attend T.C. and C.M. briefing.
- Collect the equipment you require.
- Check the radio is operating (the channel has been set)
Call Sign
If you have a radio please use the name on your folder as your call sign: eg. LEAD CAR, CAR B, CM 1 etc.
During the event
- Make sure that you safety vest is worn correctly.
- Point the direction the riders must take with the red flag. Use your free hand to wave in the directions the riders must take.
- Hold up the red flag to slow the riders as shown in the picture.
- Hold up your left hand, palm out and wave the flag to stop riders.
- Do not get distracted by spectators. You need to give this job your full attention.
- Acknowledge drivers that give way to the riders.
- Record the numbers of dropped riders.
- If a rider is having mechanical problem. Check to see if they are OK but do not give them assistance.
- If a rider falls. Check to see if he/she is OK, contact the Race Director by radio or mobile phone and render first aid.
- Record the race number of riders involved in breaking the road rules. Report this to the Race Director
- Record the registration number of cars that are interfering with the riders or drivers that are abusive.
After the race
- Return your folder and radio to the designated person
- Return the equipment to the designated person.
- Complete your post race task that is on the schedule sheet.
- Attend the debriefing
Notify the Race Director before you leave.
